Location: Waukegan, IL (In-person, full-time - 37.5 hrs/week)
Salary: $42,000 - $44,000/year (based on experience)
About Prairie State Legal Services
Prairie State Legal Services (PSLS) is a nonprofit legal aid organization dedicated to helping low-income individuals, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities meet their basic needs. We provide high-quality legal services across northern and central Illinois in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Paralegal Key Responsibilities
- Maintain regular contact with clients, provide case status updates, and schedule appointments.
- Draft routine pleadings, correspondence, notices, and subpoenas; assist with e-filing.
- Schedule court dates, monitor case files for completeness, organize documents, and manage closed files.
- Enter client info into case software, request medical/other records, handle typing, emailing, copying, and faxing.
- Help attorneys handle cases involving family law, domestic violence, Social Security Disability, housing, and administrative law.
- Assist with off-site client intake as needed.
Qualifications
- Degree (Associate/Bachelor's) or Paralegal Certificate REQUIRED.
- Previous legal experience.
- Spanish-English bilingual skills highly preferred.
- Experience working with low-income populations preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation for occasional local travel.
Short term position until the end of the year to cover a leave
Schedule: M-F 8:30AM-5PM
