Job Overview Position: Grounds Maintenance Specialist – Sylvan Lake State Park (Colorado Parks & Wildlife). Responsible for maintenance and natural resource management of park grounds, facilities, infrastructure, and fleet vehicles. Lead temporary maintenance staff and volunteers. Provide visitor services, safety, education, and project execution. Operate and maintain park-owned and state fleet vehicles, equipment (tractors, dump trucks, mowers, snowplows, etc.). Inspect and manage weeds, pests, irrigation, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems following OSHA, ADA, and environmental regulations. Hire, train, schedule, supervise temporary maintenance personnel and volunteers; enforce safety and job performance standards. Prepare work plans, budgets, purchase requisitions, maintenance reports, and inventory tracking. Collaborate with state, federal, local, and private partners on projects and compliance initiatives. Adopt and maintain required certifications (Class C Water Operator, pesticide/hazardous materials, etc.). Serve the public with safety information, directions, and educational outreach. Participate in training and continuous improvement activities. Qualifications Minimum four (4) years of experience in construction, carpentry, equipment/machinery operation, or related fields. Experience in wildlife/habitat resource or landscaping maintenance preferred. Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills. Proficiency in computer use and Microsoft Office, Google Workspace. Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to operate state fleet vehicles. Willingness to undergo background check and comply with fleet driving standards. Candidate must be a resident of Colorado at time of application. Certifications in water system operation, pesticide handling or other relevant areas are highly desirable; Class C Water Operator license required.
