Position Summary The Director of Business Development leads the agency to achieve growth expectations according to revenue, census, and start‑of‑care budget goals. This key player executes the sales and marketing plan, builds relationships with referral sources, and supports the overall growth of the organization. Essential Responsibilities & Duties Hire, direct, train, and supervise the sales team at the agency level. Coach employees to overcome objections and work collaboratively toward growth goals. Supervise and monitor the growth and health of the sales team in their defined territories. Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of community resources and provide in‑services and education to the sales team. Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding interested, prospective, or current patients. Perform direct sales to key accounts. Establish and maintain positive relationships with referral sources, patients, families, healthcare professionals, and the community to promote the hospice philosophy. Assist the Director of Admissions in overseeing the referral‑to‑admissions process to achieve growth goals. Manage conflict and complaint resolution when necessary. Develop an agency business plan establishing organization volume projections in the annual budget to drive financial performance. Understand key drivers of revenue, admissions, and length of stay and design strategic sales strategies to achieve agency growth goals. Utilize a basic sales process to uncover customer needs and barriers. Plan, direct, organize, and coordinate educational events, health fairs, and community programs. Maintain compliance by documenting accurately and timely within the organization’s electronic health record. Live the Mission and Vision and exemplify Pennant’s Core Values. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field preferred. At least three (3) years of experience in healthcare sales preferred. Knowledge of the hospice industry preferred. Physical Demands & Work Environment The role involves desk work and the heavy use of office equipment, including computer, tablet, and phone. The employee must stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, see, talk, hear, and drive. Ability to lift over twenty (20) pounds is required. More than half of the daily assignments may involve travel to client, resident, or patient locations via car or public transportation. The work schedule may occasionally require evenings, nights, holidays, or weekends.
