Location: Los Angeles, CA Job Id: 543 # of Openings: 1 The Coordinator - Human Resources will be responsible for performing administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's Human Resources department. The HR Coordinator will work both independently and collaboratively with the HR team and all departments and staff. They will have responsibility over benefit administration. The HR Coordinator will also collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Partner to provide support with recruitment and onboarding activities as needed. The ideal candidate will have proficient Excel skills, excellent interpersonal skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to quickly assess priorities. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required as they will often be representing the HR team and one of the first on the team to meet new employees. The position reports to the Human Resources Manager. Essential Functions Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, terminations, invoice reconciliation, open enrollments and communicating benefits information to employees. Serve as the COBRA administrator for the agency. Stays abreast of current trends and laws in order to be able to recommend changes as needed and required. Maintains benefit eligibility information and files annual ACA reports. Partner with various stakeholders for benefit inquiries. Reconciles all invoices for the HR Department. Provides weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to various departments. Partners with the Talent Acquisition Specialist for new hire onboarding on a regular basis, including but not limited to verify I-9 documentation and E-Verify processing. Coordinates and hosts new hire orientation on a regular basis. Responds to HR related inquiries or requests and provides assistance. Completes employment verification requests. Coordinates training compliance initiatives, including harassment prevention and workplace violence training for new hires and regularly for the agency. Maintains training records. Supports ad hoc projects and audits to ensure regulatory compliance and meet organizational needs. Participates in department, agency, and committee meetings. Promotes a culture of transparency by communicating openly, sharing relevant information proactively, and fostering trust across all levels of the organization. Demonstrates strong emotional intelligence by practicing self-awareness, actively seeking feedback, and adapting behavior to foster positive workplace relationships and continuous personal growth. This role requires daily onsite presence to effectively support team operations and collaboration. Work Environment Downtown Women’s Center operates several program and administrative locations in the Skid Row neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles. The organization’s primary hub is located on San Pedro Street (SP) and includes participant-facing services, staff and departmental offices, and Permanent Supportive Housing units. Programs at the SP site include the Day Center, Women’s Health Clinic, kitchen and meal services, Trauma Recovery Center, supportive service offices, and housing units, among other operations. Although some positions may have a primary work location at another DWC program site or within the community, employees in all roles may be expected to attend trainings, meetings, or other work-related activities at the San Pedro (SP) location. Parking near the San Pedro (SP) Access Center is limited, and employees should plan for offsite parking with a short walk to the site. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel May requires some travel for training and conferences. Work Location Onsite: 5 days per week. The Coordinator is expected to onsite daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Required Education and Experience Associate degree (or other 2-year degree), or equivalent. At least a minimum of 2+ years of experience in HR, financial, or professional services industry. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Human Resources Management, Business, Psychology, or equivalent is a plus. Required Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-look up, formulas). Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to compile and analyze data that can be used to create a data storyline to improve decision making. Strong communication skills: interpersonal, written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgement, tact, and discretion. Curious mindset that proactively identifies areas for opportunity and continuous improvement. Aptitude in problem-solving using critical thinking. Ability to adapt and multitask to effectively organize workload to consistently meet deadlines. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Cultural humility. Must demonstrate understanding, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background, and sexual orientation of the DWC community. Must be a CA resident and live no more than 80 miles from DWC; must be available for in-person meetings at DWC. Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire. Work Authorization Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment.
