Job Title: ECMO Specialist RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ECMO Specialist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: - 2 years minimum of ECMO Specialist (Circuit management) experience required - 3 or more years of CVICU/ICU preferred License: - Registered Nurse License Certifications: - Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS - Preferred: CES-A or E-AEC, LVAD Must-Have: - Must be ECMO trained - Not looking for Respiratory Therapy or Perfusion ECMO Specialists Description: The ECMO Specialist RN will work in the Mechanical Circulatory Support Unit. This position involves care for patients on ECMO. The role requires skills in activated clotting time management and arterial line management. Experience in blood product administration and central line care is necessary. Knowledge of continuous IV sedation and management of high-output drains is essential. The nurse will be responsible for interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and dysrhythmias. Management of ventilated patients and TPN/Lipids is also expected. Experience in cardiovascular intensive care and post-operative cardiac care is preferred. The nurse will provide care for patients with acute cardiac and respiratory failure, including those requiring special procedures such as Impella and IABP. The role includes utilizing advanced monitors and equipment. Flexibility to float to other units as needed is required. The position may involve weekend coverage and a patient ratio of 2:1. Travelers must have a minimum of one year of recent experience in the unit. Compliance with infection prevention protocols is necessary. Interdisciplinary support will be available, including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, and Rapid Response Teams. Overall, this position demands a high level of clinical expertise and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
