The UCLA LGBTQ+ Healthcare Fellowship, established in 2019, is the nation's first LGBTQ+ primary care healthcare fellowship. This one-year, non-ACGME program prepares the next generation of physician leaders with advanced clinical expertise, scholarly experience, and educational training to improve the health of sexual and gender minority populations.
Program Duration: July 1, 2027 - June 30, 2028
Position Summary
The Clinical Fellow in LGBTQ+ Health will participate in a 1-year comprehensive, individualized training experience that combines direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, medical education, quality improvement, and scholarly activity. Fellows work with nationally recognized faculty mentors and gain experience across a broad spectrum of LGBTQ+ healthcare in outpatient settings.
The fellowship is designed to develop future leaders in LGBTQ+ medicine who will advance clinical care, education, research, and advocacy at local and national levels.
Clinical Training Opportunities
The fellow will receive advanced training in:
* LGBTQ+ primary care
* Gender-affirming care and hormone management
* Gender-affirming surgical care (pre- and post-operative)
* HIV prevention, treatment, and longitudinal management
* Hepatitis B and C management
* High-resolution anoscopy (HRA)
* Substance use and addiction medicine
* Care for intersex individuals
* Behavioral and mental health care for adolescents and adults
* LGBTQ+ asylum and refugee health
* Affirmative psychotherapy and sexual health coursework
* Longitudinal scholarly project with dedicated faculty mentorship
Academic and Leadership Development
In addition to clinical responsibilities, fellows will:
* Participate in structured didactic sessions and case conferences
* Engage in LGBTQ+ health research and scholarly activities
* Contribute to quality improvement and program development initiatives
* Develop and deliver educational programming for medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals
* Participate in LGBTQ+ curriculum development within the David Geffen School of Medicine
* Receive individualized mentorship tailored to career goals

Minimum Qualifications
* MD or DO degree
* Completion of an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) residency by June 30, 2027, in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Medicine Pediatrics specialties
* Eligibility for California medical licensure
* Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ health equity and culturally responsive patient care
* Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
* Interest in leadership, education, scholarship, and quality improvement
Compensation & Benefits
* Annual salary: $125,000
* $5,000 education and professional development fund
