Job Description Job Title: Adult Trauma Specialist Program/Department: Adult Trauma Services Position Type: Exempt, Full-Time 40 hours/week – Hybrid Position (remote and on-site) Location: Lowell Reports to: Director of Adult Trauma Services The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is a statewide service, research, policy, program development and capacity building agency. IHR designs its services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma. IHR’s CARF accredited treatment programs provide holistic interventions for hard to reach and high-risk individuals and families. IHR’s mission, since our founding in 1989, has been to develop and support a comprehensive continuum of care for families, individuals, youth, and pregnant and parenting people affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, violence/trauma, mental health challenges and other health issues, while advancing principles of health equity and social justice. Our work is focused on addressing and eradicating inequities in our health care, economic, and justice systems, especially as they disproportionately affect women and people of color. We are committed to providing services and creating communities that mitigate the effects of substance use, mental illness, and trauma. Summary Statement The Adult Trauma Specialist focuses on assisting various behavioral health, medical, human service and justice programs to become trauma-informed as well as develop trauma-specific services. This position is also responsible for responding to inquiries regarding training and technical assistance from programs funded by the Department of Public Health/Bureau of Substance Addiction Services. Essential Functions Provide training and technical assistance to programs funded by the Department of Public Health/Bureau of Substance Addiction Services Work collaboratively with behavioral health, medical, human service and justice organizations to: Assess their strengths and weaknesses with regard to providing trauma-informed and trauma-specific services Develop and implement a trauma integration strategic plan to enhance their ability to provide trauma-informed and trauma-specific services Provide training and technical assistance that supports their implementation of trauma-informed care Plan and conduct targeted training regarding trauma that incorporates recent research and evidence-based approaches Develop and implement, online training curricula that support the implementation of trauma-informed and trauma-specific services Provide crisis response services to BSAS-funded Substance Use Disorder Treatment programs and others Provide training on trauma-specific interventions (such as Seeking Safety, Helping Men Recover) Provide trauma-specific interventions in a train-the-trainer format Assist staff of service organizations in identifying and developing relationships with organizations in their communities that can provide additional trauma/violence services Collect and utilize feedback and evaluations to improve, update, and add new content to trauma trainings Work closely with the Director of Trauma Integration Services and other members of the trauma team Provide content input to the development of web-based trauma training resources Communicate with IHR’s main office in Watertown with cloud-based shared calendars, timesheets and check in with supervisors. Attend team and agency staff meetings. Competencies Clear communication Highly organized Strong teamwork Self-motivation, ability to work independently Problem-solving skills Adaptability and flexibility Development and continual learning Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Regular attendance and punctuality are required Qualifications/Requirements Master’s degree in social work, Psychology or similar field, with particular emphasis on trauma, substance use and co-occurring disorders 5-7 years’ experience in the field of substance abuse, trauma, mental health with an emphasis on training and technical assistance Lived experience of substance use and/or trauma recovery a plus Experience delivering and training others in trauma interventions Strong understanding of addictions and substance use treatment Experience providing training and hands on technical assistance and consultation, particularly in the implementation of evidence-based practices Awareness of treatment resources in Massachusetts Experience with organizational systems change Experience working with Criminal Justice population Familiarity with child welfare issues, especially as they impact on substance use Willingness to travel throughout the state on a regular basis and out of state occasionally Excellent communication skills Excellent writing and reporting skills Other Requirements Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and regular access to a reliable vehicle.
