Company Description Southwest Mothers' Milk Bank, formerly known as the Human Milk Repository of New Mexico, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit human donor milk bank based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The organization is accredited by and is an active member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). It serves premature and medically fragile infants in NICUs and communities across New Mexico and the broader Southwestern United States by screening donors, collecting breast milk, processing high-quality donor milk with strict evidence-based practices, and dispensing milk to infants in need. Southwest Mothers' Milk Bank also provides community support and advocates for ongoing human lactation and equitable access to donor milk. Team members contribute directly to life-saving care and community health. Role Description The Laboratory Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in the Albuquerque-Santa Fe Metropolitan Area. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining laboratory equipment used for screening, pasteurizing, and testing donor human milk in accordance with established protocols and HMBANA standards. Day-to-day tasks include receiving and tracking milk donations, preparing samples, performing quality control checks, documenting results, and ensuring accurate labeling, storage, and inventory management. The Laboratory Technician collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to support safe dispensing of donor milk, follows aseptic techniques and safety procedures, and assists with continuous improvement of lab processes. The role also includes routine equipment calibration, cleaning, and adherence to regulatory and nonprofit organizational policies. Qualifications Strong laboratory skills, including handling biological samples and following standardized procedures. Experience working with laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance and calibration. Knowledge of quality control practices and ability to follow evidence-based protocols. Analytical skills for interpreting test results, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining accurate records. Experience or training as a Laboratory Technician or in a related clinical or research laboratory role. Attention to detail, reliability, and ability to follow safety and infection control guidelines. Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in laboratory science or related field preferred.
