As Senior Accountant, you will own key areas of consolidated financials across our brands, working with enterprise systems, large data sets, and directly alongside the VP of Accounting and CFO. As new businesses join the family, you will help integrate them and build the controls and processes that scale with us.In your first 6–12 months, success looks like a clean, on-time close for your areas, acquired entities integrated smoothly, key controls documented and strengthened, AI and automation built into your workflows, and Staff Accountants who are stronger because of your coaching.This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.What You'll DoPrepare consolidated internal and external financial statements across Backcountry's brandsPerform flux and trend analytics to assess and explain changes in resultsLead, train, and mentor Staff Accountants; review their journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysesOwn key areas of the balance sheet and P&L, including variances and their forward-looking implicationsPrepare the weekly cash flow and present it to the CFO, with a clear view of how the inputs and outputs reflect Backcountry's liquidityMaintain and balance the consolidation systemLead the accounting integration of acquired businesses, including onboarding entities to the ERP and consolidation, aligning accounting policies, and supporting purchase accountingPrepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations; substantiate financial transactions and prepare account roll-forwardsDesign, document, and test internal controls that scale with growthBuild well-documented close processes and drive improvements that shorten the closeApply AI and automation to streamline reconciliations, analysis, and reporting, and help the team adopt these toolsIdentify, research, and explain variances between actual and forecasted performanceStay current on accounting standards, M&A accounting, and emerging finance technologyRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting3+ years of accounting experience in public accounting and/or corporate accounting at a multi-entity companyStrong command of US GAAP, account reconciliations, and the month-end closeExperience reviewing others' work or training staffAdvanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data setsExcellent written, verbal, and analytical skillsAbility to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detailPreferred QualificationsCPA or active CPA candidateBig 4 or national public accounting experienceExperience with Oracle NetSuite or another enterprise ERP and consolidation toolExperience with M&A integration or SOX controlsHands-on experience using AI or automation tools in accounting workflowsA passion for the outdoorsWhy JoinThe people who do best here are builders.
