A wholly owned subsidiary of CardWorks Financial Group, Merrick Bank serves roughly five million cardmembers and more than 100,000 merchant customers, offering credit cards, recreational loans, deposit accounts, merchant services and bank sponsorships to consumers and businesses.Carson Smithfield, LLC provides a variety of post-charge-off debt recovery services, including digital self-service, IVR, live agent, and external agency management.Position Summary:The Collections Specialist I is responsible for the daily collection of past-due Recreation Lending loans. This role helps manage delinquency within acceptable target levels while ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and management guidelines.Essential Functions:Maintains delinquency levels within assigned loan portfolio in alignment with established target rates.Monitors assigned accounts and keeps management informed of portfolio status, trends, and potential risk areas.Performs skip tracing activities on accounts as needed to support collection efforts.Ensures collection activities comply with applicable federal and state collection laws, regulations, and internal policies.Completes assigned daily workflow accurately, timely, and in accordance with department expectations.Understands and complies with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the Bank and the role.Escalates operational issues, potential policy violations, code of conduct concerns, regulatory concerns, or suspected illegal activity as appropriate.Performs other duties as assigned.Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent required.One (1) or more years of experience in collections, customer service, or a call center environment required.Experience managing or supporting a similar loan portfolio, with an emphasis on sub-prime lending, preferred.Experience applying general accounting fundamentals, business practices, or banking principles required.Summary of Qualifications:Knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable federal and state collection laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.Communicates effectively and professionally through verbal and written channels, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and aligned with essential job functions.Demonstrates strong negotiation skills, including the ability to influence, persuade, and reach mutually acceptable resolutions.Maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with customers, team members, and management.Demonstrates strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.Works effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and sound judgment.Understands sub-prime collection practices and applies sound judgment when supporting collection activities.Proficient in job-related computer systems and software used to perform collection and account management activities.Work Environment/Physical Demands:Work is in an office environment, sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time; works with computer equipment for prolonged periods of timeSome stress may occurTravel is generally not requiredThis position reports to an assigned Team Leader and supervises no oneOur Employee Value PropositionCompetitive Pay, including a Bonus Target or Variable Pay Incentive ProgramBenefits Package -Medical, Dental, and Vision (plus much more)401(k) Plan with Company MatchShort- & Long-Term DisabilityWellness ProgramsGroup Life and AD&D InsurancePaid Vacation, Sick Days and bank HolidaysEmployee Engagement Activities including Employee Appreciation Day, DEI Employee Resource Groups, Corporate Social Responsibility, Service RecognitionWe offer a total rewards package comprised of a competitive base rate of pay, variable pay incentive programs based on the role, and a comprehensive benefit suite.
