Assistant General Counsel - Litigation (California)

Responsibilities

• Advise senior leadership on high-impact cases, providing strategic guidance and recommendations for appropriate resolution
• Serve as a key legal partner to business leaders, collaborating across functions to anticipate legal risks, support initiatives, and deliver timely, practical legal solutions
• Manage outside attorneys in all aspects of litigation facing the enterprise, including construction defects, personal injury, environmental, employment, land use, and contract disputes
• Manage matter-level financial responsibilities, including oversight of moderate outside counsel and settlement spend
• Assist in the preparation of litigation and risk reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors
• Prepare witnesses for deposition and trial
• Lead and mentor lower-level attorneys and legal professionals

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in the U.S.
• 10–15 years of relevant legal experience, preferably managing in‑house litigation at a publicly traded corporation
• Experience advising executive leadership on complex legal, regulatory, and risk‑management matters
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing legal teams and external counsel
• Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing legal risk with business growth
• Prior experience in a senior in‑house legal role or comparable law firm position
