Progressive Care RN

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit is responsible for providing primary nursing care, telemetry monitoring, and patient assessments in a 15-bed unit including step-down ICU and telemetry beds. The role requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and proficiency in acute care procedures and equipment. The nurse will deliver high-quality care to patients requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions in a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide primary nursing care to patients in Progressive Care and step-down ICU units.
• Monitor telemetry and interpret telemetry strips for patient status.
• Perform fingerstick blood sugar tests and other routine patient assessments.
• Utilize clinical equipment such as BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitors.
• Document patient care accurately using Meditech charting system.
• Administer medications using Pyxis automated dispensing system.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and ER as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii by start of assignment.
• Minimum 1 year of acute hospital care experience within the last year.
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and progressive care nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to work night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience in progressive care and telemetry preferred.

Special Considerations:

• Night shift position with no on-call requirements.
• Floating to multiple acute care units within the hospital may be required.
• Scrubs dress code.
• Must have Hawaii RN license prior to start of assignment.

Scheduling:

• Night shift schedule: 18:45 to 07:15.
• Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation.
• No guaranteed hours beyond scheduled shifts.
• Unit operates 24 hours Monday through Friday.
