RN Progressive Care

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit provides skilled nursing care, telemetry monitoring, and patient assessment in a 15-bed unit including step-down ICU and telemetry beds. The role requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, use of specialized equipment, and adherence to hospital protocols. The nurse is expected to deliver primary nursing care, monitor cardiac status, and manage medication administration while maintaining patient safety and comfort. Responsibilities:

• Provide primary nursing care to patients in Progressive Care and step-down ICU units.
• Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret telemetry strips.
• Conduct fingerstick blood sugar testing and other patient assessments.
• Administer medications using Pyxis system and document care in Meditech.
• Utilize equipment such as BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement care plans.
• Float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and ER as needed.
• Maintain compliance with hospital dress code and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii at start of assignment.
• Minimum of 1 year hospital acute care experience within the last year.
• Experience in Progressive Care and telemetry preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred.

Special Considerations:

• No on-call requirements.
• Floating to various acute care units including ICU and ER may be required.
• Must comply with hospital dress code (scrubs).

Scheduling:

• Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation.
• Varied shifts with no guaranteed hours.
• Shift ratio: 1:4 for Progressive Care, 1:3 for Step-down ICU.
