Safety Specialist

Job Overview This position reports to the Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality and Training Manager in support of the Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) of facilities at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and Kesselring Site, both located in upstate New York. The role requires the ability to write reports and procedures, computer skills, public speaking, participation in project meetings, teamwork, and excellent follow‑through. Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities The Safety Specialist will be responsible for the implementation of EHS policies and procedures. Interpret and apply OSHA standards. Conduct EHS surveys and audits, and maintain EHS documentation. Collect and analyze EHS metrics. Conduct accident investigations and participate in the safety committee. Provide safety field oversight of production personnel involved in radiological and RCRA D&D activities. Basic Qualifications Minimum five years of safety and industrial hygiene experience with a Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial engineering or related field of study required, and working knowledge of OSHA Construction Industry standards. CSP, CIH, CHMM or equivalent certification preferred. Experience in construction, demolition, remediation, asbestos abatement, lead abatement, lifting & rigging, ergonomics, noise, scaffolding, air monitoring and industrial hygiene equipment. Prior shipyard, DOE or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience strongly preferred. Experience in radiological and environmental decontamination and decommissioning fields a plus. Must be a US Citizen; no dual citizenship. Must obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Level L Security Clearance. Must obtain and maintain radiological qualifications. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to pass and maintain a medical clearance required for entry into radiological areas. Occasional overtime and travel may be required (infrequent).
