Medi-Cal Billing Specialist
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of experience in hospital accounts receivable, medical billing, or healthcare collections .
- Knowledge of hospital billing processes, CPT/ICD codes, DRG reimbursement, and UB-04 institutional claims .
- Experience working with Medi-Cal, Medicare, and commercial payers .
- Experience with insurance eligibility verification through payer portals and customer service.
- Strong knowledge of claim denials, underpayments, appeals, and payment variances.
- Proficiency with hospital billing systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
Responsibilities
- Review AR aging reports and prioritize collection activities.
- Follow up with insurance carriers regarding outstanding balances.
- Verify insurance eligibility through payer websites and portals.
- Follow up on UB-04/institutional claims .
- Investigate and appeal denied or underpaid claims.
- Resolve billing discrepancies with internal departments.
- Document all account and collection activities accurately.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and applicable regulations
