AAMI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician

Join a dedicated healthcare team as a Biomedical Equipment Technician responsible for the installation, inspection, repair, and routine maintenance of clinical medical devices. This role ensures that all biomedical equipment operates at peak performance to support patient care in a regional healthcare setting within the Central Plains of the United States.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform installation, calibration, inspection, maintenance, performance verification, and repair of electronic and mechanical clinical equipment.
• Conduct repairs, inspections, and installations as assigned by supervisors.
• Identify opportunities to improve services, systems, and processes continuously.
• Maintain detailed documentation of equipment status, inspections, repairs, and failures.
• Recommend new equipment and testing procedures to leadership.
• Assist in managing and monitoring third-party maintenance and repair services.
• Report outcomes of preventative maintenance and suggest improvements.
• Provide in-service education to staff on equipment use when requested.
• Maintain clinical equipment to the highest standards and comply with privacy regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, contractors, physicians, and external agencies.

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technician certification required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• 1-3 years of experience repairing and maintaining medical equipment preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a clinical engineering environment within a medical center is advantageous.
• Membership in the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is favorable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
• Familiarity with basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to biomedical equipment.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and inventory control databases.
• Ability to run diagnostic programs and test electronic equipment and circuitry.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission and state standards relevant to clinical engineering.
• Awareness of infectious disease protocols.

Physical Requirements

This position involves medium work, occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds and frequently up to 10 pounds. Approximately 26-50% of the workday may involve standing or walking. Accommodations may be provided as needed.
