Tax Accountant

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Tax Accountant on behalf of a confidential client in the professional services industry. This is a direct-hire opportunity based onsite in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, offering competitive hourly compensation, overtime compensation as applicable, and seasonal scheduling flexibility. POSITION OVERVIEW The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing individual and business tax returns, supporting accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations. This position offers the opportunity to work across a variety of tax and accounting matters while collaborating with experienced professionals. RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare accurate federal and state tax returns for individuals and businesses, ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations. Support tax planning, research, and preparation activities, including business deductions, depreciation, and other tax-related matters. Perform accounting and bookkeeping functions, including maintaining financial records and reconciling accounts using QuickBooks Desktop and Online. Utilize Drake Tax, Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets, Microsoft 365, and other financial applications to manage tax preparation and reporting. Maintain accurate and confidential client documentation through paperless workflows, secure portals, PDF editing tools, and electronic signature platforms. Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders to gather financial information, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely completion of tax filings. QUALIFICATIONS Active Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) participation required at minimum; Enrolled Agent (EA) designation strongly preferred, with CPA credentials also welcomed. Experience preparing individual and business tax returns; familiarity with trust and estate returns is a plus. Proficiency with Drake Tax, QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Microsoft 365, and Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets. Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations, accounting principles, and bookkeeping practices. Excellent attention to detail, organizational abilities, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines during peak tax season. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This direct-hire opportunity offers a competitive hourly rate of $48 per hour, with additional overtime compensation as applicable based on hours worked and the position's classification. The position follows a seasonal schedule: Tax Season (January 1 – April 15): Approximately 60–70 hours per week, with opportunities for additional earnings through applicable overtime compensation. Remote flexibility is available for extended hours when the office is closed. Off-Season (April 16 – December 31): Approximately 20–32 hours per week, primarily onsite, with half-day Fridays. Actual annual compensation will vary based on hours worked and applicable overtime eligibility.
