You will provide leadership on high-risk projects, guide Project Risk Review (PRR) activities, and partner with project teams and senior leaders to promote sound risk management and informed decision-making from pursuit through project execution.You will also help shape and advance the E&R risk practice by developing practical risk management tools, delivering training, coaching project teams, and ensuring consistent application of Stantec’s Corporate PRR Practice. At the same time, you will help evolve the BOU Risk Practice to address the unique risks and opportunities of the E&R business.With visibility across the full E&R project portfolio, you will focus your expertise where it can have the greatest business impact. Reporting to the BOU Commercial & Risk Director (CRD), you will serve as a trusted advisor to project teams and leadership while helping build a strong, proactive culture of risk awareness and accountability.This role can be based in any Energy & Resources office location in North America. The position requires regular in-office presence in support of our flexible work practice.Your Capabilities and CredentialsManage the implementation of Stantec’s PRR practice for E&R including through leading PRR required governance activities and supervision of the E&R Risk Manager.Attend and serve as lead Risk Manager on BOURC and ELRC reviews for large, complex, and/or high-risk projects.On a quarterly basis complete an audit of select projects that have gone through BOURC review for compliance with go conditions. Use this as an opportunity to initiate in depth discussion risk mitigation with Project Managers (PMs) and Project Independent Reviewers (PIRs).Serve as liaison between E&R BOU and the ELRC for the improvement, management, and execution of the PRR Practice.Serve as liaison between E&R BOU and the designated Risk Managers in other Business Lines to drive consistent implementation of the PRR practice. Participate on other BOU Risk Committee reviews upon request of Business Leaders, typically when executing BOU does not have significant experience executing E&R-related scopes, such as nuclear or dams-related projects.Ensure that the E&R BOU’s risk management procedures are appropriate and implementable or work with the teams to develop new mitigation procedures should the original procedures be rejected by the client or for other means. Develop custom procedures appropriate for the client, scope of work, and project team with Stantec where standard risk mitigation measures are not appropriate.Engage and work closely with the E&R BOU CRD to develop commercial plans that will meet the needs of our clients while benefiting Stantec.On a quarterly basis, evaluate the projects that have gone through PRC reviews to determine trends and refine the program to drive the trends down with respect to number of claims and financial impacts. Keep this information confidential and work with legal to obtain potential claims information.Develop and implement a procedure to verify that the E&R BOU conducts the necessary Governance reviews for large, complex, and/or high-risk engagements having the potential for significant impacts. Manage the execution of these reviews and follow up with project teams on risk mitigations between regularly scheduled reviews.Develop go conditions for projects that warrant a waiver of BOURC and/or ELRC risk reviews. Obtain applicable PRC approvals for waivers.Work with teams in the NA and NAE BCs pursuing projects to understand what project elements have the greatest potential to cause significant financial and/or reputational impacts to Stantec. Work with the pursuit teams to understand the best ways to mitigate those risks.Promote a culture of risk awareness by delivering training to those involved in project delivery and facilitating risk management-focused discussions with BC leadership.Develop and deliver new tools that enable more effective risk management. Tools include risk guidance documents, sample risk libraries, risk registers, and best practices.In partnership with the Energy and Mining, Minerals, & Metals (MMM) Business Line Discipline Leadership teams, document, organize, and maintain risk-related practices, policies, and procedures to support continued improvement of the Practice Framework.Proactively interface and communicate with Senior Project Management and Commercial Leaders (PMCLs), and PIRs to ensure risk is being monitored and mitigated on all E&R projects. Participate in PMCL/PIR/PM discussions as requested to support risk register and risk reserve review.PEOPLE LEADERSHIPProvide guidance to the E&R Risk Manager on best practices and supervise their implementation of the PRR Practice.Work with BC Leadership, S-PMCLs, PMCLs, PMs, and Account Managers to develop a team capable of identifying and quantifying risk and mitigating it with the necessary staff capabilities and availability, and with the necessary procedures including Independent Technical Reviews and input from the Technical Practice Leaders (TPLs).Solicit risk-related feedback from PM community and regularly communicate that feedback to the business leadership and Corporate Risk Leadership.Deliver training to staff that are responsible for pursuing and delivering projects on effective risk management to develop these skills within each individual contributor.Promote health and safety performance and culture through the evaluation of safety risks on projects.Your Capabilities and CredentialsExercise sound judgement to determine appropriate implementation of the PRR practice.Apply advanced knowledge of risk management to reduce the BOU’s financial exposure.Analyze key pursuits for risks having the potential to impact Stantec and determines risk mitigations.Meet E&R’s individual role based KPIs for leading indicators and safety training.Strong leader and team player, collaborator, and communicator with excellent people skills.Demonstrated leadership competencies – acts as a highly regarded leader, thought partner and a source of counsel and advice.Strong organizational skills with ability to work under minimal supervision.Ability to rapidly develop a comprehensive understanding of Corporate directives, programs, standards, and procedures.Ability to travel to US, Canadian and Global offices and client sites as require.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related technical field.A minimum of 15 of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Alternate Project Delivery (APD) or large heavy civil projects is preferred.PM Certification, risk management certification and/or Professional Licensure is preferred.Pay Range:• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$121,300.00 - $182,100.00 Annually• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$130,200.00 - $195,300.00 AnnuallyPay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
