A well-established professional accounting and tax practice in Bakersfield is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on bookkeeping experience within a CPA/public accounting firm, tax practice, or professional bookkeeping business and be comfortable supporting multiple business clients.

This position requires more than general bookkeeping. The successful candidate will have experience with payroll preparation, payroll tax returns, sales tax preparation, 1099 filings, and unsecured business tax filings , in addition to day-to-day bookkeeping responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple business clients
• Maintain accurate financial records and general ledgers
• Record and categorize income, expenses, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
• Perform bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations
• Prepare and process payroll for clients
• Prepare payroll tax returns and related filings
• Prepare sales tax returns and filings
• Prepare and file 1099 forms
• Prepare unsecured business tax filings
• Prepare monthly financial statements and financial reports
• Review transactions for accuracy and identify discrepancies
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
• Maintain organized and accurate client records
• Communicate with clients regarding bookkeeping, payroll, and tax-related documentation
• Assist with gathering and organizing financial information needed for tax preparation
• Manage multiple client accounts, priorities, and deadlines
• Maintain strict confidentiality of client financial and tax information

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional bookkeeping experience required
• Previous experience working in a CPA/public accounting firm, tax practice, or professional bookkeeping business strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience preparing payroll
• Experience preparing payroll tax returns
• Experience preparing sales tax returns
• Experience filing 1099s
• Experience with unsecured business tax filings
• Experience handling bookkeeping for multiple business clients preferred
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, and account reconciliations
• Experience preparing financial statements
• QuickBooks experience required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a professional accounting team

The ideal candidate is an experienced bookkeeper who understands the demands of working in a CPA/public accounting environment and is comfortable handling bookkeeping, payroll, and tax-related responsibilities for multiple clients. Candidates coming from a CPA/public accounting firm, tax office, or professional bookkeeping business are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications, with an anticipated average of approximately $25/hour.
