UNIV - Youth Services & Recovery Coordinator - Psychiatry: NCVRTC

Job Description Summary The YSRC will be responsible for implementing wraparound case management and substance use-related recovery (non-clinical) services. Duties will include working closely with the program coordinator to assist with individualized treatment planning and recovery plans, implementation of SBIRT and Catch My Breath Programs, coordinating referrals for adolescents and families, and conducting needs/barriers to treatment assessments with all clients and linkage with services as needed.

The SAMHSA-funded Family Tree program, founded in 2021, provides no-cost therapeutic services to adolescents aged 12 to 18. Family Tree is a short-term outpatient substance use treatment program that offers various evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adolescents and their families who reside in the Tri-County area with or without co-occurring trauma-related mental health problems. The goal of Family Tree is to reduce the onset of substance use in adolescents through therapeutic interventions and treatments.

Job Description

FLSA: Salary

Work Schedule: M-F 8:30 am–5:00 pm Some evening and weekend hours are required to meet programmatic needs (e.g., meetings with families who are not available before 5pm; community events)

Job Duties:

• 30% - Coordinate linkages and referrals for treatment for adolescents and caregivers referred to the Family Tree Program. This includes screening referrals for substance use disorders, co-occurring trauma, and/or other related mental and behavioral health challenges; conducting phone screens with youth and caregivers, communicating with referral organizations to gather needed information, and leading weekly staffings with the Family Tree team, which includes presenting cases at team meetings for clinician assignment.

• 30% - Develop comprehensive recovery plans and implement wraparound services for adolescents and family members being served by the Family Tree program. This includes case management services, navigation to community organizations, referral to medical providers or mental health services, conducting needs/barriers to treatment assessments with all clients upon intake into the Family Tree program, etc. Coordinate transportation and other linkage with services as needed to reduce barriers to treatments. Maintain thorough documentation from referral through discharge.

• 15% - Implement Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and CATCH My Breath (CMB) for youth connected to partnering schools and organizations and assist with community-based awareness events and education and initial and booster trainings in these models as needed.

• 10% - Abide by federal and state confidentiality and privacy requirements, as well as all MUSC Policies and Procedures and abiding by and meeting all grant requirements and objectives. Ensure that the project team is knowledgeable about any issues that impact the functioning and management of Family Tree/EMPOWERR.

• 5% - Assist with SAMHSA-required data collection with youth and caregivers.

• 5% - Attend weekly staff meetings as well as other meetings with the program coordinator and team members.

• 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Training & Experience:

• A master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, public health, education, psychology/related social sciences)
• Interest in working with adolescents and families affected by substance use and co-occurring behavioral health concerns
• Interest in community outreach and building relationships with schools and other youth-serving organizations
• Experience engaging adolescents and families who may have difficulty accessing or remaining engaged in treatment services
• Familiarity with local community resources
• Public speaking and/or classroom management
• Excellent listening, verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop rapport with adolescents, caregivers, and community partners
• Experience entering data into REDCap databases and knowledge regarding basic database design
• Ability to work independently while functioning collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
