Job Summary The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Manager in supervising kitchen and catering staff and participates in preparation for all DECC meal functions. The Sous Chef will assist in inventory, ordering and receiving, and maintain the catering departments equipment and safety and sanitation standards. Key Responsibilities Assist the Executive Chef with hiring, training, supervising, and working alongside kitchen staff. Supervise and participate in prep work and cooking. Supervise all kitchen operation in the absence of the Executive Chef. Assist with inventory and ordering. Oversee the regular cleaning of the kitchen. Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance. Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and positivity within the kitchen. Competencies Ensure a high level of customer service. Produce a high volume of work in a timely manner. Adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events. Resolve problems and manage difficult situations as needed. Move quickly throughout the complex when an event is located in multiple areas. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Qualifications Degree or related culinary degree. Minimum 2+ years of culinary management experience. Minimum 5+ years of cooking experience. Preferred: Previous chef experience within a convention center or hotel. Work Environment & Physical Demands The majority of work is performed indoors with moderate to loud noise levels and temperature fluctuations. The role requires standing for many hours, moving quickly, using hands frequently, and lifting up to 40 pounds at times. Eligibility Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. Successful completion of reference checks, a background check, and a drug test (if applicable). Schedule & Uniform Full‑time position with a schedule based on DECC event needs, including daytime, evening and holiday shifts. Uniform: chef coats provided; black pants and shoes required.
