Special Education Teacher – Elementary School

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students in a primary self-contained elementary classroom. The teacher will work with students with a variety of disabilities and learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down syndrome, and life skills needs.

The classroom is supported by instructional aides, providing a collaborative environment focused on student development, individualized instruction, and meaningful progress.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction in a self-contained elementary classroom.

• Develop and implement individualized instruction based on student needs and IEP goals.

• Write, manage, and monitor student IEPs and progress.

• Support students with ASD, Down syndrome, life skills needs, and other disabilities.

• Collaborate with classroom aides, general education staff, related service providers, and families.

• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction and interventions as needed.

• Maintain accurate special education documentation and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Special Education teaching certification required.

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Previous experience working in a self-contained special education classroom preferred.

• Experience writing and managing IEPs strongly preferred.

• Experience supporting students with significant disabilities, ASD, or life skills needs is a plus.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
