Assumes a lead position in planning and establishing a treatment planning and dosimetry service. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with radiation oncologists in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by dosimetrists, and establishes an effective quality assurance program for the service.Job Description:Responsibilities:In cooperation with the Radiology Director, Radiation Oncologists,Therapist Manager, and Nurse Manager of Hematology/Oncology establishes thetreatment planning service. Evaluates planning and simulation software andequipment, specifies final configurations, implements and tests systems.Determines required junior physicist and dosimetrist staffing. Recruits,interviews, trains, supervises and evaluates planning service staff. Prepares staffassignments and schedules to match workload.Develops equipment specifications for radiation therapy treatment,simulation, planning, brachytherapy, and therapeutic radiation detectionequipment.Develops procedures for initial and continuing evaluation of radiationtherapy treatment, simulation, planning, brachytherapy, and therapeutic radiationdetection equipment, computer systems, and software. Performs acceptancetesting of equipment, computer systems, algorithms, data, and output.Oversees and coordinates the activities of physicists, dosimetrists, andsimulation therapists in the planning service.Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related toappropriate use of therapeutic radiation, simulation, and treatment planningin conjunction with the Radiation Oncolocists, Therapist Manager, andNurse Manager.Provides guidance on correct coding and billing for simulation, planning,and brachytherapy procedures. Works with team members on an ongoing basis to update charge master and assure billing compliance.Develops and manages a comprehensive Quality Management Program thatmonitors and evaluates critical radiation oncology equipment and processesand strives to optimize them.Maintains professional contact with peers through professional associationmembership, attendance at professional meetings and related activities. Keepsabreast of developments within the service. Identifies opportunities for improvement, efficiency, and savings. Plans and implements changesDesigns and implements a course in the physics of medical imaging for theRadiology Residency Program. Provides an annual coures includinglectures and reference materials for radiology residents.Implements and monitors a comprehensive clinical radiation safetyprogram in radiation oncology.Requirements:Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Radiation Therapeutic Medical Physics or an equivalent field or discipline with at least 5 years of directly related work experience.Board Certification as a Medical Physicist (ABR, ABMP, or equivalent)In depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, mehods, procedures, and techniques.Strong supervisory, communication, interpersonal and team building skills.Advanced knowledge of radiation safety principles, Federal, State, and local regulations for the provision of radiation therapy services.Broad product knowledge in the area of specialty and ability to develop purchasing specifications.Pay Range:$193,440.00 USD – $260,345.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.
