Position and Duties Under the general direction of Supervising Special Investigator I (SSI I), the Special Investigator (SI) (non-peace officer) conducts diverse administrative, civil, and criminal investigations against professional licensees of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). Incumbents may work independently or with a group of investigators (non-sworn) to conduct lawful and thorough investigations of alleged violations and pursue cases for prosecution or hearing where applicable. Additional information is available in the Duty Statement. This role will cover the following Northern California locations: Alameda, Shasta, Siskiyou, Humboldt, San Joaquin, and Sacramento. The position requires extensive driving within the incumbent’s assigned territory and occasional travel throughout the state. It licenses and regulates more than 3.4 million licensees in over 280 license types. The BRN regulates nursing practice and enforces the Nursing Practice Act.
