Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience License: Active Illinois nursing license required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS recommended Must-Have: - Experience caring for patients with a wide range of medical, neuro, and surgical conditions. - Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator management. - Ability to titrate drips; familiarity with drugs like Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors. - Experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1. Description: This position involves providing care in a stepdown unit with a variety of complex patient needs. The unit consists of 21 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. Registered Nurses will care for three patients at a time. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, end-stage renal disease, liver failure, and more. Nurses will monitor and manage patients with diverse conditions such as post-operative surgeries, strokes, and respiratory issues. Nurses are expected to work closely with charge nurses and house supervisors who are available on each shift. There are patient care technicians to assist nurses with patient care responsibilities. Bedside monitors are used for all patients, and tele techs help interpret strips. The schedule requires working every other weekend and holiday. Travel RNs are the first to float based on staffing needs and unit requirements. Dress code is flexible regarding scrubs. A structured orientation process is in place to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and electronic documentation systems.
