Accounting Manager - Construction and Development

Job Summary: The Accounting Manager(M3)- Construction and Development leads the accounting team in their responsibilities for a group of projects under construction and acquired/developing projects for which Leeward Energy has asset management responsibility. Responsibilities: Responsible for managing and directing the activities of a team of four, who prepare complex and routine journal entries in accordance with US GAAP. Own balance sheet integrity for construction and development entities, including cash, construction-in-progress and property, plant and equipment, lease right-of-use assets and liabilities, intercompany accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other key accounts; ensure timely preparation and resolution of account reconciliations. Oversee accounting for the full fixed asset life cycle, including construction-in-progress tracking, capitalization, placed-in-service determinations, transfers between entities and coordination with operational accounting teams. Oversee lease accounting for a high volume of land and project-related leases, including operating leases, sale leaseback arrangements and leases with purchase or option extensions. Partner closely with project execution and procurement teams to support purchase order processes, construction cost tracking and timely invoice processing. Assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements and related variance analysis. Support accounting for complex transactions, including tax-equity funding structures, common-control transactions, acquisitions and other complex financing arrangements. Prepare opening balance sheets and purchase price allocation entries as needed. Serve as a key point of contract for external auditors by preparing audit schedules, providing supporting documentation and responding to inquiries. Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls and documentation in a rapidly evolving environment. Special projects and other duties as required. Qualifications: Bachelors of Accounting or equivalent, CPA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of two years people management experience. Strong technical and analytical accounting skills with exposure to complex accounting topics such as consolidations, multiple-entity structures, common control transactions, equity and investment accounting, lease accounting, construction accounting, establishing and documenting accounting policies in accordance with GAAP. Commitment, ability, and prior experience in meeting deadlines for monthly and quarterly reporting, and special projects; preparing thorough and complete analyses and reconciliations with appropriate documentation and follow-up. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities and deadlines with professional follow-through. Demonstrated ability to manage monthly close process and produce high-quality analysis and reconciliations. Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop team members, prioritize work effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented, hands-on approach with a high level of ownership, accountability and professional judgement. Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally. Microsoft Dynamics experience a plus. Advanced excel skills required.
