Job Description

At Custom Mechanical Systems L.L.C. (CMS), we are seeking a qualified and resourceful Human Resources Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department and ensure smooth and efficient business operations. This position will support recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, employee relations, performance management, training and development, HRIS administration, compliance, workforce planning, and HR projects. The Human Resources Generalist will work closely with the Human Resource Manager, management, employees, and vendors to support company goals, maintain compliance, and promote a positive workplace culture.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, sourcing, applicant tracking, onboarding, orientation, performance management, employee development, and offboarding.
• Manage and maintain applicant tracking systems (ATS) such as Workday, Taleo, iCIMS, SAP SuccessFactors, or similar platforms.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HRIS data, personnel files, job descriptions, attendance records, and payroll documentation.
• Administer and maintain HRIS systems such as Workday, Oracle HCM, PeopleSoft, Kronos, Ceridian, Paylocity, or similar platforms.
• Process and audit payroll, including wages, deductions, tax withholdings, garnishments, timekeeping, and payroll discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage, hour, tax, employment, and labor regulations.
• Support compliance with FMLA, OSHA, workers' compensation, affirmative action, and other applicable employment requirements.
• Administer employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, 401(k), leave, and employee assistance programs.
• Coordinate employee orientation, training and development programs, performance evaluations, and succession planning initiatives.
• Support employee relations by addressing employee concerns, grievances, investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and terminations while maintaining confidentiality.
• Maintain, update, and enforce HR, safety, and company policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and HR best practices.
• Maintain and review job descriptions for consistency with job families, organizational standards, and industry requirements.
• Support change management, organizational development, workforce planning, and strategic HR initiatives.
• Assist with HR projects involving workforce management, HR analytics, HRIS updates, process improvements, and organizational initiatives.
• Prepare HR reports, presentations, newsletters, HR metrics, safety documentation, and other reports for management and leadership.
• Analyze HR data and reports to identify trends and support informed workforce and business decisions.
• Assist with contract review, employment documentation, compliance records, and other HR-related documentation.
• Support employee engagement initiatives, company culture programs, and employer branding efforts, including social media recruiting when needed.
• Collaborate with management, employees, vendors, and leadership to ensure consistent application of company policies and HR standards.
• Maintain accurate HR, safety, and other company records and documentation.
• Perform other HR-related duties and projects as assigned.

Required skills and qualifications

• Proven experience in human resources, HR administration, HR Generalist, or human capital management.
• Strong knowledge of human resources principles, practices, policies, and employment regulations.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws, including FMLA, OSHA, workers' compensation, wage and hour regulations, tax requirements, and garnishments.
• Advanced knowledge of HRIS systems and the ability to learn and adapt to new technical systems.
• Experience with HRIS platforms such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, PeopleSoft, UltiPro, Ceridian, Kronos, Paylocity, or similar systems.
• Experience with applicant tracking systems such as Taleo, iCIMS, or similar platforms.
• Experience with payroll systems such as Paycor, Paychex, ADP, UltiPro, Dayforce, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of benefits administration, payroll, timekeeping, attendance, leave administration, and workforce management.
• Strong employee relations, negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee information with discretion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate in clear, professional, plain language.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, data entry, and records management abilities.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate and conduct employee training and development programs.
• Experience supporting performance management, employee evaluations, workforce planning, and succession planning.
• Ability to analyze HR data, prepare reports, and use HR metrics to support management decision-making.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
• Resourceful and proactive with the ability to make timely, logical decisions.
• Ability to adapt to changing business needs, priorities, conditions, and responsibilities.
• Experience with employer branding and social media management is a plus.
• HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR are a plus.
