We are seeking a passionate and dedicated cook to join our team and support the nutritional needs of residents in our Veterans Care Center. This role plays an essential part in preparing high-quality meals that meet dietary guidelines, promote resident satisfaction, and uphold all safety and sanitation standards. Schedule: Rotating 6:00am-2:30pm and 11:30am-8:00pm 5 days a week and every other weekend (including holidays). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, recipes, and dietary requirements, including special and modified diets.
• Ensure all food is prepared safely, attractively, and in compliance with state and federal regulations and facility policies.
• Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation and service.
• Assist in menu preparation by providing input on food items and resident preferences.
• Set up meal trays, serving lines, and equipment needed for each meal service.
• Monitor and rotate food inventory, ensuring proper storage and minimizing waste.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work areas, and food storage spaces.
• Follow all infection control and food safety standards.
• Work collaboratively with Dietary Aides and other team members to ensure efficient meal service.
• Communicate resident food preferences, concerns, or changes in dietary needs to the Dietary Manager or supervisor.
• Support a positive dining experience by ensuring meals are appetizing, timely, and consistent.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be Serv Safe certified within one year of employment. Hampton Roads Fats, Oil, and Grease Training aka HR F.O.G. Certification Required
• Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines (SERV Safe standards)
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and special diet requirements.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes, menus, and portion control guidelines
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to stand, walk, and lift items in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in food service or healthcare dietary settings preferred but not required.

Additional Considerations: Previous long-term care, geriatric or hospital experience preferred but not required.
