Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Defense Attorney to join our litigation team in New Jersey. The successful candidate will represent insurance carriers and insureds in a broad range of civil litigation matters, with a focus on automobile liability and coverage disputes. This role requires strong litigation skills, practical coverage analysis, and the ability to manage caseloads from intake through trial and appeal while maintaining excellent client communication and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a docket of insurance defense matters including automobile liability, premises liability, and other civil claims from initial intake through resolution.
• Provide legal analysis and advisory services on insurance coverage issues, including duty to defend, indemnity, and reservation of rights.
• Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, coverage opinions, and settlement demands.
• Represent clients at court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
• Develop case strategies, conduct depositions, prepare witnesses, and manage expert witnesses and consultants.
• Collaborate with claims adjusters and in-house counsel to assess exposure, evaluate settlement options, and provide realistic resolution plans.
• Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and timely communication with clients regarding case status and strategy.
• Stay current on applicable statutes, case law, and developments in insurance defense and coverage law, particularly in New Jersey.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the New Jersey Bar.
• 5+ years of civil litigation experience with a focus on insurance defense, automobile liability, and coverage matters preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with coverage analysis, liability defense, and handling depositions, motions, and trial preparation.
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to draft clear legal memoranda, motions, and coverage opinions.
• Practical knowledge of automobile insurance law, policy interpretation, and New Jersey procedural rules.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while providing excellent client service.
• Professional demeanor, strong ethical standards, and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative litigation team.
