School Psychologist K - 12

Reports To: Director of Student Services and Supervisor of Special Education

Terms Of Employment: 10-month, full-time, salary in accordance with the PEA Collective Bargaining Agreement

Available: ASAP

Principal Function: Identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. Uses assessment data about the student and his/her environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs. Provides consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students. Assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs. Delivers a planned and coordinated program of psychological services. Applies ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observes relevant laws and policies that govern practice. Participates in professional organizations and continually seeks to improve professional knowledge and skill. Communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates knowledge of general assessment procedures, standardization principles and specific concepts as they apply to the practice of educational assessment.
2. Administers scores and interprets evaluation instruments with accuracy.
3. Interprets evaluation results and makes recommendations in light of school curriculum/milieu.
4. Makes appropriate recommendations that follow data and diagnosis.
5. Presents information and interpretations in a clear and understandable fashion.
6. Shares information in a meaningful manner, adjusting language to the level of understanding of the audience.
7. Presents recommended interventions/strategies in sufficient detail to facilitate proper implementation.
8. Performs follow-up activities with school personnel in order to monitor/refine/revise recommended interventions.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of special education standards and regulations; particularly those standards and regulations dealing with the definitions of various exceptionalities, the Multidisciplinary Evaluation process and timelines.
10. Promotes collaborative rather than expert model.
11. Upholds moral and ethical standards for psychological practice that are consistent with American Psychological Association (Division 16) and National Association of School Psychologist guidelines.
12. Exhibits sensitivity, respect, empathy and acceptance necessary for establishing rapport with students and parents.
13. Promotes collaborative model, which involves appropriate support personnel in problem resolution.
14. Contributes meaningfully at team meetings.
15. Interprets programs to parents and to assist with parent needs.
16. Involves relevant personnel in case follow-up
17. Communicates necessary information to supervisor.
18. Exhibits knowledge of current developments in profession.
19. Maintains client confidentiality.
20. Utilizes outside resources (agency services, community services, medical personnel, etc.) effectively.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree and Specialist level graduate degree, or Doctorate in School Psychology from an approved program.

2. A valid certificate to practice as a school psychologist.

Pre-Employment Paperwork: Clearances must be within 12 months and, TB must be within 90 days of hire.

Sedentary: involves sitting most of the time. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 10lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

Light Work: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Medium Work: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Heavy Work: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Very Heavy Work: The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
