Details Med/Surg unit caring for patients with orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and neurological trauma Patient ratios of approximately 1:6-7 Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15) 36 or 48 hours per week accepted Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding Assigned to work every other weekend Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems Requirements Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission BLS certification required; ACLS preferred Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within the last 5 years Epic documentation experience required Skills required: heparin drips, PCA, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, dysrhythmia management, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care Preferred skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, drip management, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery care, and spinal cord injury care Must pass EKG testing prior to start Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission) Additional Information Provide direct patient care for complex Med/Surg cases including trauma, neurological, and orthopedic conditions May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties 12-hour unit orientation plus 16 hours of organizational education required Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually Navy scrubs required RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation First-time travelers welcome to apply Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure and facility approval required Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both American Traveler Job ID P-750099.
