Ag Research Technician

:

Description & Details: Assist with all aspects of field and laboratory research as well as management of the plant pathology program. Perform daily activities including assisting in set up, planting, plot maintenance, soil, plant sample collections, harvesting, and processing of harvested and collected soil and plant samples. The candidate is expected to perform duties under general guidelines provided by the project leader but require the use of the incumbent's judgement for the greatest efficiency and compliance with the safety policy of NDSU.

Field Work:

• Seed preparation
• Cleaning and preparing planter and tractor.
• Field layout, planting, and maintenance of trials
• Sample collection
• Data collection from standing crops
• Soil sample collection
• Weed management (spraying, hand pulling, hoeing, etc.)
• Disease and insect management
• Mowing, tilling
• Prepare combine for harvesting.
• Harvesting plots, collecting, drying, and processing samples
• Postharvest data collection
• Data entry and maintaining accurate and complete records of data collected including procedures followed.

Laboratory work:

• Soil Sampling
• Root Washing
• Data collection from sampled plants
• Maintaining seed archive
• Cleaning of laboratories

Work Schedule: Typically Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Hours will vary depending on research needs.

Advertised Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Equivalent of 3 years agriculture/farming experience and/or 1 year of Ag research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate of Science Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree
• Plant Pathology Program experience research preferred.
