The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. Presence at the Alexandria, VA campus is required for this role, as it includes on site functions that must be performed in person. Position may be eligible for situational telework in accordance with agency policy/business unit discretion. The agency currently allows for 52 hours of telework per calendar year. A $25,000 recruitment bonus may be authorized for new federal employees in alignment with federal regulations and a signed 1-year service agreement.

The Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) serves as the principal advisor to the Chief Information Officer and the Under Secretary for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office on the application of information technology (IT) to improve business processes and outcomes. The DCIO provides leadership and management of the OCIO organization and is ultimately responsible for the development, implementation, information security, maintenance, enhancement, and operation of USPTO's information technology and data assets. The DCIO provides operational and tactical leadership, oversight, guidance and direction for the planning and management of the OCIO and information technology across the USPTO, with particular emphasis on day-to-day IT operations execution and administrative oversight and management. The DCIO represents the Chief Information Officer to the OCIO, USPTO, United States Department of Commerce, legislative and policy-making bodies, and to various work groups and committees composed of governmental, public, and industry group stakeholders. Specifically, the incumbent provides leadership and management of the following areas for the OCIO and information technology across the USPTO:
