Administrative Nursing Supervisor

Schedule and Compensation Work Shift: Evening; Work Days: Vary, including weekends and holidays. Scheduled Hours: 3PM–11:30PM. Hourly Rate: $70 per hour. Job Summary Maintains eight to twelve hour accountability for the coordination of clinical and administrative activities for the nursing department. Is administratively responsible for Montefiore Nyack Hospital operations in the absence of a higher‑ranking administrator. Essential Functions Demonstrates the technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the successful operations of the department, including, where applicable, age‑specific competency. Demonstrates clinical expertise with evidence of skill in application of the Nursing process; serving as a resource person and role model for staff. Evaluates critical patients, unusual situations or incidents, provides intervention and resolution or recommendations for resolution and reports same in accordance with policy and procedure. Evaluates and coordinates total patient care needs and staff requirements with awareness of cost‑effective utilization of staff and supplies. Provides a comprehensive and succinct report to on‑coming supervision. Demonstrates knowledge of labor relations, economics and legislation that affects all stakeholders; possesses knowledge of NYSNA contract, interpreting the terms and assuring compliance with the contractual agreement. Maintains in‑depth knowledge of current nursing trends, inclusive of pertinent medical, legal and healthcare trends, initiating interventions as required. Makes daily rounds on all assigned units. Coordinates, assesses and plans patient admission, discharges and transfers with the Admitting Department and nursing care units; specifically works with Admitting to expedite the admission of emergency‑room patients and direct admissions. Customer Service Demonstrates personal excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers. Holds staff accountable for the delivery of excellent customer service. Participates in team efforts to increase the level of customer satisfaction. Performance Improvement Demonstrates the ability to recognize an opportunity for improvement and to collect and assess data. Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate a Performance Improvement Plan. Participates in departmental/hospital‑wide activities which improve processes/outcomes. Utilizes resources to maintain and improve self‑knowledge and development and fosters the same for employees. Demonstrates compliance with licensure/certification requirements and the timeliness of their submission. Budget Prepares and administers the annual budget. Demonstrates ability to manage variances in the budget including human‑resource management and management of expenses. Collaborates with employees to control costs and pursue additional revenue opportunities. Projects/Assignments Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations. Qualifications Bachelor degree in nursing required. Master’s degree in nursing preferred. A minimum of three years recent clinical experience with at least two years managerial role or equivalent leadership role. BLS – American Heart Association required. ANA certification preferred.
