PERMIT CLERK

JOB SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Utility Billing/Permit Supervisor, the Permit Clerk is responsible for providing administrative duties, clerical accounting, customer service, and daily maintenance of customer permit accounts. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Greets/corresponds with the public in person, via telephone, or email regarding permitting, building inspections, planning, zoning, and code enforcement processes and requirements. Greets/corresponds with the public in person, via telephone, or email regarding City offices and divisions. Responds to questions and requests and provides appropriate information. Reviews permit and zoning applications, contractor registrations, and supporting documents for proper submission. Ability to read, comprehend, and provide information relative to City ordinances, codes, and regulations. Refers certain issues to the appropriate staff and takes messages where appropriate. Perform principal record-keeping tasks and maintain the filing system. Calculates and accepts payments for permits and related applications. Assist Water Department as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma is required. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft products including Excel. Ability to work independently and well with others. Ability to take responsibility in all situations, including emergencies. Organized and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Dependable. Exhibit professional demeanor and dress at all times. Possess outgoing personality. Must be flexible in scheduling the workday. Bilingual a plus. Coursework in accounting and or bookkeeping preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people is essential. Any combination of experience in delivering high customer service and customer account maintenance is accepted.
