Area Health Information Specialist I

About the Role This position is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) requests, primarily medical record requests, in a timely and efficient manner. The Associate ensures accuracy, provides customers with the highest quality product and customer service, safeguards patient privacy and complies with HIPAA, company policy and authorizations. The role requires extensive travel (75 percent or more of the time) and is an intermediate level position with at least one year of relevant Health Information Management (HIM) experience. Position Highlights Onsite St. George, UT - With coverage in Cedar City as needed Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Front desk processing of medical records requests - customer service Full benefits: PTO, health, vision, dental, 401(k) savings plan, and tuition assistance Tremendous growth opportunities locally and nationwide What We’re Looking For Strong customer service and clerical skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) Comfortable working in a high volume production environment Medical office experience preferred Willingness to learn and grow within Datavant You will: Receive and process patient health information requests in accordance with company and facility policies. Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information. Maintain working knowledge of company and facility software. Adhere to the company’s and customer facilities code of conduct and policies. Inform manager of work site difficulties and/or fluctuating volumes. Assist with additional duties or responsibilities as needed. Apply medical privacy regulations consistently to guard against unauthorized disclosure. Manage patient health records ensuring HIPAA compliance. Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper or electronic sources. Assemble medical records in standard order, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical records. Respond to requests for patient records from the facility and external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately. Answer inbound/outbound calls. Assist with patient walk-ins, faxes, opening mail, data entry, and scheduling pick-ups. Assist in training associates in the HIS I position. Generate reports for manager or facility as directed. Exceed level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at the specific site. Participate in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies and initiatives. Act in a lead role with staff regarding general questions and assist with new hire training and developmental training. Perform any other duties as assigned. What you will bring to the table High school diploma or GED. Must be 18 years of age or older. Able to travel locally/regionally 75 percent or more of the time. Ability to commute between locations as needed. Able to work overtime during peak seasons if required. 1 year health information–related experience. Meets and/or exceeds company’s productivity standards. Basic computer proficiency. Comfortable using phones, fax machine, printers and general office equipment. Professional verbal and written communication skills in English. Detail and quality oriented regarding accurate and compliant medical records. Strong data entry skills. Minimum supervision required; able to respond to changing priorities. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks. Able to respond to requests in a fast paced environment. Bonus points if Previous production or metric based work experience. In person customer service experience. Ability to build relationships with on site clients and customers.
