For more information about benefits and employee perks, visit General Summary Location: Waterford | Pay Rate: $21.50 per hour. NOTE: This is a part‑time position limited to 1,000 hours/year. The part‑time County Market Operations Specialist assists in the administration of the Waterford Oaks Oakland County Market. Responsibilities Interacts with market visitors and vendors by answering questions and providing daily customer service. Maintains order of the market and ensures vendors and patrons follow all policies, rules, and regulations. Opens and closes the market, cleans it, and inspects stalls after closing to ensure neat, clean, and orderly condition. Works some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Operates point‑of‑sale computer system, collects rental fees, handles cash transactions, makes change, provides receipts, and ensures accurate transaction processing. Deposits monies in the bank and maintains accounting books and transaction records as requested. Responds to inquiries of vendors, patrons, and the general public by phone, email, or mail regarding market use, fees, rules, and regulations. Manages rental reservations for specific areas and assists with special events to increase patronage. Directs vehicle arrangement on market grounds as needed and resolves customer and vendor complaints or escalates them to higher staff. Writes detailed daily/weekly reports for higher staff regarding operations, rules, policies, requests, complaints, and suggestions. Inspects facilities for maintenance, improvement, and repair; assists with cleaning bathrooms, trash removal, sweeping/mopping, and organization of supplies. Maintains records on supply inventories and provides input on purchases. Enforces Parks and Recreation Commission rules with aid of park employees and deputies. Cooperates with State Agricultural Inspectors on food product regulations. Communicates with emergency officials during incidents, completes incident reports, and works with Risk Management as needed. Supports emergency response training and execution of plans during emergencies. Provides input on market policies and procedures to enhance customer service and utilization. Train market employees in proper park procedures. Accounts for fees, maintains records, and provides budget recommendations. Coordinates work schedules for part‑time staff; provides input on hiring, training, and performance management. Oversees recreational program activities, special events, and volunteer activities at park facilities. Evaluates program results and recommends adjustments. Utilizes countywide and department‑specific software for assignments. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. At least six months of full‑time equivalent supervisory or administrative experience in a park, recreation, or program setting, or similar leadership experience. Valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Familiarity with Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission Rules for park properties. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish favorable working relationships. Knowledge of cash management practices, point‑of‑sale functions, and customer service. Physical ability to perform manual duties outdoors, standing, walking, and lifting, in varying weather conditions. Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations. Reasonable ability to maintain personal cleanliness and presentable appearance. Knowledge of safety practices and current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e‑mail, and Internet software. Special Requirements Required documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services confirming no central registry child abuse or neglect as a perpetrator. Applicant will be asked to authorize a criminal history check. Applicants will not be considered if convicted of child abuse or neglect, or a felony involving harm within the last 10 years. Supervision Exercised Functions as a leader over part‑time seasonal staff and volunteers, up to 40 per shift. Instructs, directs, schedules, checks, and appraises performance. Additional Duties & Responsibilities Coordinate staff schedules, prepare reports, track inventory, and support purchasing and budget initiatives. Perform cleaning or maintenance tasks, basic repairs, restock machines, and provide technical support. Respond independently to operational problems to ensure a safe and enjoyable park experience. Support partnerships, sponsorships, and community outreach initiatives. Assist with grant applications, tracking, and reporting. Essential Mental & Physical Requirements Ability to communicate, interpret documents, and provide instruction to others. Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to weather conditions. May require driving or traveling in an automobile. Working Conditions Must work evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
