WEIGHTS AND MEASURES INSPECTOR 1 - UNDERFILL

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Measurement Standards, seeks to fill a vacant Underfill Weights and Measures Inspector 1 position in Las Vegas. The role primarily involves field work, extensive travel throughout the assigned territory—often up to 25% overnight stays—and compliance with the CDL requirement, which mandates random controlled‑substance screening during employment. Responsibilities Inspect gasoline dispensers, linear and petroleum measuring devices, small and large capacity scales, and large capacity meters to ensure accurate weighing and measuring. Check equipment for wear, malfunction, or problems; verify accuracy; calculate tolerances; and remove non‑compliant devices from service. Perform petroleum inspections, assess advertising and labeling, collect samples for laboratory analysis, and verify brand registrations to prevent fraud and protect the environment. Investigate consumer complaints and violations, complete interviews, collect and preserve evidence, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions and restitutions. Maintain testing equipment and standards through preventive and minor maintenance, record service logs, and calibrate against official state standards. Audit public weighmasters, review certificate records, and verify transaction accuracy. Verify retail commodity prices to ensure they match point‑of‑sale system values. Prepare, maintain, and file inspection records, activity reports, and annual inspection schedules. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's degree in science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, agriculture, or a closely related field, and one year of experience in inspection, maintenance, or installation of mechanical and/or electrical equipment; OR high school diploma/equivalent with two years of work experience, including one year in the agricultural industry or a general maintenance/construction trade, operation of commercial scales, gas pumps, propane tanks, diesel or heavy‑duty truck with commercial license, or similar equipment handling. Demonstrated knowledge of basic math, physics, electronics, weight categories, conversions, and mechanical principles. Safe and defensive driving techniques and knowledge of hazardous chemical handling procedures.
