Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. We strive to eliminate barriers to participation, to continue creating programming that engage all communities, to be intentional about staff and volunteer diversity and to promote a culture of inclusion across the organization.

Our council currently serves 930 girls across Alexander, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Rowan, Stokes & Yadkin Counties. 

Position Summary:
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works in close partnership with the Board Chair and individual Board members to advance the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability. The Executive Director of GOTR of the Greater Piedmont will work with community leaders, schools and school systems, non-profit partners, families and participants, volunteers and a Board of Directors to create significant impact in our community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth, experience in fundraising and grant writing, business acumen and will have successfully managed community impact programs, including evaluation and measurement. The ideal candidate will have the desire and drive to grow and build on an existing program while bringing new and innovative ideas. The Executive Director will partner in the recruitment and selection of a part-time Program Coordinator during the first six months of employment, with the expectation that this position will assume direct supervisory responsibility following the Program Coordinator’s hire. 

Key Responsibilities

Principle responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Strategic Planning

• Provide strategic direction and leadership of the overall program through careful implementation and continuation of the Strategic Plan.
• Develop a comprehensive council growth plan that reflects creative program and site development strategies with an intentional focus on growing access and diversifying communities served.
• Collaborate with the Board to identify and plan for infrastructure growth parallel to growth of the program.

Fund Development

• Develop sustainable revenue plan with a focus on grant writing and individual donor development and stewardship to exceed $95,000 annually.
• Develop and sustain sponsorship relationships with local, corporate and national partners.
• Serve as ambassador to raise awareness by building and maintaining relationships with local media, service groups, corporate groups, fitness organizations, etc.

Volunteer Leadership and Board Relations

• Provide direction and oversight to the volunteer coaches, and committee leadership.
• Develop coach recruitment and retention efforts that result in coaches representing the diversity of girls served.
• Cultivate and steward key relationships with community organizations and site liaisons, coaches, parents, participants and volunteers.
• The Executive Director will establish and maintain effective channels of communication with the GOTR International and Board members, prepare thoroughly for Board and committee meetings, and actively support productive Board engagement. 
• The Executive Director is expected to facilitate constructive dialogue, communicate openly about challenges and areas of concern, and work collaboratively with the Board to address issues and make informed decisions. 

 

Operational Administration

• Manage the organization with a business mindset by establishing and implementing efficient systems and strategies.
• Execute all financial, operational and programmatic reports to Girls on the Run International and to state and local funding agencies in a timely manner.
• Leverage data to monitor GOTR Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and track progress toward meeting organizational goals.

Build Community Presence

• Oversee special events planning and execution such as the season-end 5k events, fundraising events, etc.
• Ensure community engagement and communication is consistent with the GOTR brand and core values.
• Strategically engage with community partners to expand organizational awareness and reach. 
• Create and maintain content for our social media pages.

Program Leadership and Staff Management

• Provide strategic and hands-on leadership for program operations, working closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure successful planning, execution, and continuous improvement of programs.
• Directly supervise the part-time Program Coordinator, providing clear expectations, coaching, mentorship, and accountability.
• Support and collaborate with the Program Coordinator in the execution of core program functions, including volunteer management, participant and family engagement, program communications, scheduling, and program administration.
• Oversee program timelines, priorities, and deliverables while empowering the Program Coordinator to take ownership of day-to-day responsibilities.
• Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities within program operations and work with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement solutions.
• Lead efforts to expand program reach by identifying and developing opportunities to grow the number of program sites and participants, in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and community partners.

Required Qualifications

• 3-5 years of relevant education or work experience, with executive leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit community impact environment.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of day-to-day responsibilities, exercising sound judgment and making decisions with limited day-to-day supervision. 
• Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, setting and managing budgets, and financial forecasting.
• Passion for the Girls on the Run mission.
• Readiness to embrace the work of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
• Ability to effectively communicate issues surrounding girl empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health and comfortability delivering presentations to large groups.
• Strong technological proficiency and microsoft office.
• Must be available nights and weekends as needed for GOTR events, funding opportunities and ambassador engagements.
• Reliable transportation.
• A flexible and adaptable team-player with a sense of humor.

This is a full-time position based in the greater piedmont area. The position allows for flexible remote work; however, the candidate must be locally based to provide hands on leadership and support to our community. 

• Frequent local travel with periodic out-of-state travel.
• Ongoing in-person and virtual interactions in community.
• High speed internet access required to access systems.
• Occasional lifting of roughly 35-pound boxes of supplies, materials, etc. to waist high level.

This position offers a starting compensation of $45,000-$55,000 annually commensurate upon experience with a $500 monthly stipend for health insurance. In addition, Girls on the Run Greater Piedmont offers a PTO package, mileage reimbursement (paid at the standard IRS mileage rate) and raises and/or bonuses at the discretion of the Board of Directors. A computer will be provided for business use at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
