Library Technical Assistant: Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Specialist

Job Overview Position: Library Technical Assistant – Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Specialist (Full‑time, Non‑Exempt, 40 hours). Department: Armacost Library. Salary Range: $25.00–$28.00 per hour. Hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. Duties and Responsibilities Acquisitions & Electronic Resources: Communicate and coordinate orders, receipts, and payments of library materials; create purchase orders, manage invoices, resolve payment discrepancies, analyze usage, and maintain electronic resources. Course Reserves: Consult with faculty, research and verify bibliographic data, manage online and physical reserves, observe copyright guidelines, digitize and reformat content, and compile usage statistics. Library Operations: Oversee circulation, patron account management, first‑level reference, stacks maintenance, and daily operations; conduct walk‑throughs, coordinate with IT, facilities, and other units; manage expenditures, draft policies, conduct data analysis, and uphold patron privacy. Supervision: Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate student employees; provide guidance, manage workflows, and collaborate with other supervisors. Qualifications Education / Experience: One of the following combinations—Certificate in library science with 2 years of recent full‑time library or higher education work; Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of recent full‑time library work; Associate’s degree with 2 years of recent full‑time library work; or High school diploma with 4 years of recent full‑time library work. Students near completion of their education are encouraged to apply if they meet the relevant experience requirement. Preferred Experience: 2 years working in an academic setting; experience hiring, training, and supervising university students; experience with OCLC’s World Management Services, Adobe Acrobat, Springshare’s LibAnswers, Microsoft 365, Canva, and Canvas. Knowledge and Skills Comprehensive knowledge of library operations, technologies, and intellectual freedom principles. Strong written and verbal communication, detail‑oriented organization, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with library databases, integrated library systems, and the Library of Congress classification system. Ability to exercise judgement regarding copyright and conflict resolution, and to work independently under high pressure. Physical Requirements The position is in‑person and student‑facing with frequent interruptions. Duties include sitting at a desk, using a computer, walking throughout the library, lifting or carrying items up to 30 pounds, and interacting with a diverse population.
