Vice President

The Vice President serves as a key leadership partner to MGC's President. They will play a central role in advancing our mission to protect and promote access to genealogical records across Massachusetts. This position is designed as a leadership development opportunity: the incoming Vice President will work closely with MGC's president to learn the full scope of MGC's operations, advocacy work, and community relationships, with an eye toward assuming the presidency in the future.

Responsibilities

• Support the President in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and day-to-day governance
• Represent MGC at state and national events and in coalition relationships with member organizations and partner groups
• Assume presidential responsibilities in the President's absence
• Serve as a voting member of the MGC Board of Directors, attending 5-6 virtual Board meetings per year
• Contribute to MGC's advocacy efforts on behalf of open and accessible genealogical records in Massachusetts
• Help cultivate relationships with MGC's organizational members, including local genealogical societies, libraries, and archives across the Commonwealth

Qualifications

• Genuine passion for genealogy, family history, and the preservation of historical records
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ties to Massachusetts or New England strongly preferred; familiarity with local genealogical resources, archives, and records is a meaningful asset
• Prior leadership experience in a nonprofit, civic, or professional setting is a plus but not required
• No prior nonprofit board experience necessary; we will provide mentorship and support

Logistics

• Entirely volunteer; no compensation
• Primarily remote; Board meetings held via Zoom
• Expected start date: July 2026
