PLC Programmer / Automation Engineer

Job Title Summary

Employees in this job are advanced professionals responsible for the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of programs used for oilfield automation and industrial equipment; maintenance of existing software programs; implementation of code & programming logic; develops, writes, and optimizes intermediate to advanced PLC, HMI and other similar programs that meets customer needs or solves particular problems; leads teams of junior programmers and technicians to accomplish tasks; communicates with customers.  

Essential Job Functions

Ø Daily coordination with team members.

Ø Builds PLC & HMI programs in multiple platforms.

Ø Daily travel to various locations, both in and out of state, to commission automation systems.

Ø Delivering and/or picking up materials at various locations.

Ø Wiring termination of various devices in automation controllers.

Ø Installation of level, pressure, flow and communication devices.

Ø Field assembly/repair of various automation equipment.

Ø Stocks vehicle with necessary equipment for daily tasks.

Ø Communicates with customers in person, telephonically, and via email/text.

Ø Operates heavy equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, etc. when needed.

Ø  Removes/replaces/troubleshoots damaged equipment in the field.

Ø Communicates with field personnel and assures remote functionality of installed equipment.

Ø Generates daily work orders for customers and office personnel.

Ø  Reviews/Corrects/Approves paperwork submitted by assigned field personnel.

Ø Trains team members as needed.

Ø May answer phones and direct calls to correct personnel. Takes detailed messages.

Ø Receives and generates emails/written correspondence.

Ø Attends meeting and trainings.

Ø All other duties as assigned.

Other Skills or Job Requirements

Ø Advanced software skills in Control Builder, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, and Crimson.

Ø Organizational ability to coordinate resources.

Ø Ability to calibrate controls, communication equipment, and conduct diagnostics as needed.

Qualifications

Ø Five-years automation experience. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

Ø Must possess valid driver license.

Ø Able to perform responsibilities with a high level of professionalism, accuracy, tact and integrity due to the great frequency of internal and external contacts.

Ø Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organizational and communication skills.

Ø Detail oriented, forward thinking and proactive.

Ø Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed.

Ø Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook software packages or demonstrated skills with comparable software.

Ø Able to multi-task and complete assignments in a timely manner .

Physical Demands

Ø The usual requirements in a field environment are lifting/installing equipment, using hand/power tools, climbing ladders, and operating heavy equipment.

Ø Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

Ø Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving 25 pounds or more.

Ø Frequent standing, sitting, bending or squatting.

Work Environment

Ø Noise level could be moderate to extremely loud in work environment.

Ø Ability to use safety equipment to work in hazardous locations.

Ø Ability to work in stressful environment and deal effectively with stress.

Ø Ability to work in a hot/cold environment, both inside and outside.

Ø Ability to work non-typical hours if necessary.

Travel Requirements

Ø Frequent travel – Ability to travel to and from locations daily.

Ø Limited travel for activities such as classes, and workshops in and out of the service area. 

Ø Overnight travel as required.
