divh2Medical Assistant 1/h2pThe Department of Urology is seeking a Medical Assistant 1 to work on-site full-time in Miami, FL. The Medical Assistant (MA) 1 will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA shall assist patients healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission./ppCore Job Functions/pulliAbides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information./liliDemonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology./liliAssists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed./liliUnderstands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physicians care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures./liliPerforms routine laboratory tests./liliPerform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patients medical record./liliObserves and reports patients signs or symptoms changes./liliAdministers medication safely as directed by the physician. Assists in patient care activities such as walking./liliEscorts and transports patients to various hospital locations./liliCleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique./liliSchedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work./liliProvides patient with providers care instructions and information./liliMaintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
