Athletic Director

Jacob's Chance is seeking a community-minded, proactive, and compassionate individual to join our team as Athletic Director (AD). This role is essential to the planning, development, and delivery of adaptive athletic programs and supporting additional assigned programs for youth and adults ages 5–40 with intellectual, developmental, physical, and complex disabilities. The Athletic Director also oversees volunteer recruitment and training for assigned programs and works closely with participants, families, volunteers, and community partners. This position reports to the Program Director. The ideal candidate has a passion for athletics and an even greater passion for creating meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Key Responsibilities: Athletic Programs The Athletic Director's primary responsibility is the planning, development, and management of Jacob's Chance athletic programs. Plan, coordinate, and oversee year-round athletic programs. Collaborate with community partners and local venues to secure program space. Manage athletic equipment, including inventory, maintenance, storage, and organization. Recruit, train, and support coaches and instructors while fostering positive, ongoing relationships. Attend and assist with athletic programs, including participant attendance and program facilitation as needed. Communicate regularly with participants, families, and volunteers before and throughout each program. Build and maintain relationships with community partners to strengthen collaborations and expand programming opportunities. Collaborate with VCU’s Kinesiology and Health Sciences department to support the execution of Inclusive Fitness & Health Lead volunteer orientation and training. Provide ongoing support and recognition. Ensure volunteers have a positive experience. Collaborate with programs team to design and implement variations of volunteer trainings for the programs this position oversees, to fit the needs of the intended audience Conduct volunteer trainings as needed throughout the year Collaborate with programs team to plan and implement an annual volunteer appreciation event Administration Assist with program planning and evaluation. Track registrations and attendance. Support special events and organizational initiatives. Utilize Google Suite to maintain program schedules, planning documents, and participant records. Create and share engaging social media content highlighting athletic programs and participant experiences. Required Qualifications: Required Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred 1+ years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in a sports, recreation, or community wellness setting Experience working in a mission-driven or community-based organization strongly encouraged Strong organizational and communication skills Maintain emotional control under stress Ability to work evenings and weekends Reliable transportation and valid driver's license Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with strong attention to detail Preferred CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) $55,000 / year Paid time off Paid holidays Health insurance stipend Retirement match after one year Mileage reimbursement Professional development opportunities Flexible scheduling when appropriate Job Classification: Programming Connect With An Expert We’re here to help you make an impact.
