POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Career Advancement Programs leads the strategy, design, and day-to-day management of ASH award and career development programs. This role oversees volunteer engagement and program operations, advances cross-cutting strategic initiatives, and serves as a subject matter expert on career development in hematology. The manager plays a key role in supporting the Society’s goals to recruit, develop, and retain individuals in hematology-related fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads or represents the department on strategic and cross cutting projects relevant to the career advancement and awards. Areas of focus include: New program development Volunteer recruitment and engagement Career development strategy and implementation Process and program refinements Serves as department lead for strategy, project, program, and deliverables management in support of volunteer leadership groups including subcommittees, task forces and working groups. Provides subject matter expertise on award programs, career development best practices, and the intersection of gender and career advancement particularly for socially vulnerable groups. Responsible for community building and networking activities for career development awards programs, which include the Scholar, AGRA, RTAF, Phy-Sci, Graduate Research, and HONORS awards. Serves as the program lead for marketing and outreach for career advancement and award programs, including: reviewing and refining all public-facing materials; coordinating community-building activities; and supporting program reporting, assessment, and evaluation. Identifies and develops opportunities for program improvement and operational efficiencies. Oversees award disbursement and compliance (e.g. payments, reports, transfers, no-cost extensions); provide initial review of budget and financial activities. Collaborates with department staff on cross departmental initiatives. Building communities within and across departmental programs. Strengthening mentorship within and across departmental programs. Establishing ‘next step’ engagement opportunities for program alumni. Establishing stronger personal relationships with awardees and alumni. Foster an environment of continued engagement with program alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Minimum of five years of relevant work experience required. Experience coordinating awards, scholarship/fellowship, mentorship, or grants programs required. Knowledge of professional associations, especially medical societies strongly preferred. Familiarity with the barriers that prevent the full participation and advancement of all in biomedical research desired. Demonstrated alumni relations or similar experience desired. Detail and customer service oriented with excellent organizational skills. Able to do meticulous work carefully and accurately. Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. Excellent analytical, technical and project management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and Internet. Positive, proactive work attitude and ambitious self-starter able to excel in fast‑moving work environment with changing priorities. Possess excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal/communication skills. Able to work well under deadlines and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires manual labor for administrative support (e.g. mobility for mail dissemination and file maintenance, standing for materials compilation).
