About the Position

Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 18:45-07:15 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2+ years License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Positive attitude with a focus on teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Recent experience in MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down (PCU) is preferred. Description: This unit has a total of 40 beds. Patient ratios are 1:5 for Step-Down and 1:6 for MedSurg, escalating to 1:5 if combined day and night. The goal is to have a free charge position, with typically 1-2 CNAs based on patient volume during the day and night. Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps. The documentation system utilized is Cerner. Scheduling requires working every other weekend with no on-call responsibilities and assistance during holidays. Floating to other units within the skill set is expected. The priority is patient safety and care. This unit focuses on receiving admitted patients, completing admission assessments, medication reconciliations, and initiating acute care orders. The goal is to reduce overall length of stay and enhance the patient and family experience. A well-rounded background is preferred due to the variety of patient diagnoses. Charge Nurse experience, or a willingness to consider, is appreciated. Minimal bedside procedures are performed in this environment. Dress code includes navy blue or white uniforms; t-shirts are not allowed. Appropriate Navy or white jackets or sweaters can be worn if needed. Most of the travel nurses request extensions, with some remaining for several years. Floating to other units does occur; however, additional opportunities are available in telemetry and as transport nurses. Telemetry nurses oversee telemetry patients for safety, escalating clinical issues as necessary. Transport nurses assist with moving higher acuity patients, allowing ED nurses to remain with ongoing care.
