Field Service Technician

Field Service TechnicianWe are seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician to support the repair, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning of electromechanical transit equipment used in public transportation systems. This role combines in-house electronics repair with field service support at customer locations. Approximately 75% of the position involves troubleshooting and repairing equipment onsite, while the remaining 25% involves travel for installation, startup, maintenance, and repair activities.Key ResponsibilitiesIn-House Service & Repair (75%)Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical equipment and assemblies.Perform board-level circuit analysis and component-level repairs.Use electronic test equipment to identify faults and verify repairs.Complete functional testing to ensure equipment meets performance requirements.Document repair activities and maintain accurate service records.Work closely with internal service and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.Field Service & Equipment Installation (25%)Travel to customer sites to install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.Perform system upgrades, modifications, and preventive maintenance.Verify proper operation and functionality following installation or repair.Provide professional technical support to customers in the field.Serve as a technical representative while working at customer facilities.Required Qualifications1–3 years of experience in field service, electronics repair, electromechanical maintenance, or a related technical field, or completion of a technical degree/certification program.Hands-on soldering experience.Experience troubleshooting and repairing printed circuit boards at the component level.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PCB drawings.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with modular equipment installation and assembly.Familiarity with logic boards, embedded systems, firmware, or software-controlled equipment.Experience working with electromechanical systems in a manufacturing, transportation, industrial, or service environment.Travel RequirementsApproximately 25% travel, with potential for additional travel following training.Travel may begin shortly after starting the role.Assignments can range from single-day service calls to multi-day installation projects.Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends.Work may be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.Company-provided tools, equipment, and travel arrangements.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, IL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.50 - $25.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
