Job Description
REPORTS TO Head of Growth & Ecommerce
LOCATION Remote
TYPE Full-time · no direct reports
Why this role exists
At BioTRUST, we’re on a mission to help people live longer, healthier, more vibrant lives — and our website is how most of them find us. Nearly all of our revenue runs through BioTRUST.com and our landing pages, and today that entire surface sits with one person. We’re rebuilding the function around a different idea: one strong technical operator inside the company, supported by contracted development for the work that genuinely needs engineers. We’re looking for a Technical Ecommerce Manager to be that operator. You know Shopify inside and out, you would rather fix the thing than file a ticket about it, and you can tell a configuration problem from a code problem in minutes. Just as importantly, you’re genuinely curious about the positive impact nutrition and healthy aging can have on people’s lives and you’re excited to help build it. You’ll be the single front door for everything on our site — building pages and funnels, running the request queue, protecting site health, and deciding what is worth sending to developers. It’s hands-on work with real ownership and very little bureaucracy between you and shipping something. Let’s build something great together.
What you will do
- Site operations. Product pages, collections, homepage, promotions. You build them, schedule them, and verify they actually went live the way they were supposed to.
- Landers and funnels. We build landing pages through an automated pipeline. You will write the specs it builds from, QA in staging, publish, and keep the record of what we tested and what won.
- Checkout and subscription. Our subscription program runs on Recharge. You will own plan setup, customer-facing flows, and a weekly watch on payment failures and declines.
- The technical stack. Theme, apps, integrations, tracking. You fix what is configuration and write the spec for what is code.
- Triage and project management. Customer Service, Brand and Product all need things from the site, and every request comes to you — you reproduce it, classify it, and either resolve it or route it. Nothing reaches our development partner without going through you first. The whole queue lives in Notion: requests logged and triaged, specs written where developers can find them, a visible priority order and release calendar, and stack documentation kept current — so anyone who asked for something can see where it stands without asking you again.
- Vendor management. You manage our development support — reviewing estimates, tracking hours, holding them to their response times, and catching scope creep before it is billed.
- Site health. A monthly review: speed, error rates, conversion by funnel step, things quietly broken. Nobody else is watching.
One thing to know going in
A site relaunch is on the horizon
This role will be central to it. That is the best part of the job and the hardest part of the job, and we would rather you know now than find out in week three.
It also shapes who we are looking for: we need someone who has been through a relaunch, replatform or major redesign before — not observing it, doing it. We will ask you to walk us through one.
What you need to be able to do
Hands-on technical
- Read and edit Liquid — templates, sections, snippets. Build a new section by adapting an existing one, and debug why one is not rendering.
- Confident HTML and CSS. Fix a broken layout, adjust responsive breakpoints, restyle a component
- Intermediate JavaScript — read existing scripts, write small vanilla JS, debug console errors.
- Shopify theme architecture — sections, blocks, schema, JSON templates, theme settings.
- Basic Git — branch, commit, read a diff, revert.
- Browser devtools — inspect, console, network tab, and run a Lighthouse audit you can act on.
Platform
- Shopify admin at expert level — products, variants, metafields, automated collections, markets, navigation, redirects.
- A subscription platform at configuration level (Recharge preferred): plan setup, swaps, skip and pause logic, dunning and failed-payment flows, the customer portal.
- Discounts and checkout configuration — including a clear sense of what cannot be changed without a developer, so you do not promise things we cannot do.
- App stack management — install, configure, audit. Spot when two apps conflict, and spot the ones injecting scripts and slowing the site down.
Data and tracking
- Google Tag Manager — build and debug tags, triggers and variables. Fluent in preview mode.
- GA4 — set up events, build a funnel exploration, and recognize when the data itself has broken.
- Verify Meta pixel and CAPI are firing correctly, and understand deduplication.
Project and vendor
- Write a spec a developer can build from
- Build and run workflows in Notion — databases, views, templates and dashboards for intake, prioritization, release tracking and documentation. Comparable tools count (Asana, Jira, Linear, ClickUp) if you can show a workflow you designed and other people actually used.
- Manage a development partner — review estimates, track hours against a retainer, enforce response times.
- Own a QA checklist , and hold a release when it fails.
- Coordinate across Growth, Customer Service, Brand and Product team members.
Experience
- 3+ years running a Shopify store day to day in a direct-to-consumer business. Shopify Plus preferred.
- Direct, hands-on experience with a subscription platform .
Nice to have
- Supplements, health or wellness category experience.
- A CRO or experimentation background.
- SQL, or comfort reconciling numbers across systems that disagree.
- Experience working alongside an automated build or deployment pipeline.
What this job is not
- Not a software engineering role. You will not build applications or work on infrastructure.
- Not a design role. You will implement and improve, not art-direct.
- Not a marketing strategy role. You will partner closely with Growth, who set the offers and the angles.
- Not a management role. No direct reports today. You will manage a vendor, not people.
What You Bring
- A self-starter’s instinct. No one is going to hand you a prioritized list. You decide what matters first, keep several things moving at once, and are comfortable working in an environment where the plan changes.
- Serious organizational skills. Requests, specs, releases and deadlines arrive from Growth, Customer Service, Brand and Product at the same time. You keep all of it moving without anything quietly falling off the list.
- Clear, direct communication. You set expectations, tell people what is and is not possible, and can explain a technical constraint to someone non-technical without making them feel lost.
- Comfort with data, and the instinct to reach for it. You look at conversion, error rates and funnel numbers before deciding what to change, and you let what you find guide the next move.
- A willingness to help and learn. We are a small and mighty team, so the edges of this job move. You will pick up tools and systems you have not used before because someone has to — and you would rather learn it than wait for it.
