Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to adult patients with various neurological conditions, ensuring safety and comfort during their stay.

Schedule

Night Shift: 3x12 hours (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)

Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule

Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Responsibilities

Monitor and assess patient conditions, including cardiac and neurological observations

Administer medications and manage cardiac drips (no titration)

Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration

Provide respiratory support, including oxygen administration and non-invasive airway management

Participate in rapid response and code teams

Maintain isolation precautions and adhere to safety protocols

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services

Qualifications

Must possess a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a compact state

1 year of experience in a PCU or similar setting preferred

Charting experience with EPIC preferred

Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (preferred)

Ability to float to other units within clinical skillset as needed

Patient Care

The RN will care for adult patients, focusing on:

Neurosurgery recovery

Stroke management

Neuro-specific diagnoses and medical overflow

Continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring in dedicated beds

Unit Details

Patient Ratios: 1:45 for days and nights

Patient Capacity: 20 beds

Orientation and Training

All new hires will complete a comprehensive orientation totaling 48 hours to ensure readiness for unit duties.
