About the Role
You'll join Fig's founding engineering team as the second engineering hire, working directly with the founders on every major decision the company makes. Fig is building AI agents for industrial ingredient manufacturers, the $750B industry that makes the ingredients in every food you eat. Some days that means backend systems that ingest hundreds of PDFs out of customer ERPs and inboxes. Other days it means an agent that completes a 100-page food safety document. Frontend, backend, infra, agents. Everything is fair game.
What You'll Do
- Build backend systems that ingest and process messy real-world documents from customer ERPs and inboxes.
- Develop LLM agents that complete complex, multi-page compliance and food safety documents.
- Own features end to end across the stack, picking up whatever the company needs next.
- Ship fast and iterate on real user feedback instead of debating architecture for two weeks.
- Work daily with founders out of Stanford, Instacart, Nature's Fynd and Bain, plus a CTO who was the first engineer at two startups before this one.
What We're Looking For
- A builder. You've shipped products real people used, and you can explain what you'd do differently.
- Full-stack range. You can take a feature from backend service through to the UI without waiting for a specialist.
- LLM and agent work that actually ran in production, not demos.
- High drive, and genuine excitement about doing the startup thing.
- Founding or early-engineer experience at a startup is a strong signal.
Fig doesn't care where you went to school or how many years you have. They care about what you've built and how you think.
How Fig Builds
Kotlin and Spring Boot, React and Next.js, Postgres, GCP, Gemini and Anthropic, plus a stipend for the coding agent of your choice. Intentionally simple. They'd rather go deep on a small set of tools than spread thin across a trendy stack. You don't need Kotlin on your CV. Strong engineers on other stacks are expected to pick it up.

Full time, fully in person in San Francisco. $200k to $300k base plus 0.5% to 2% equity.
